Privacy Policy

This site first introduced its digital privacy policy back in 2001. Long before such privacy policies became required for some web sites and businesses by legislation. You can verify this using the archive.org web tool "Way Back Machine"

This site's privacy policy below has been updated for the world we live in 20+ years later.

The Internet, and its various networks, have become sadly too much a source of excessive data gathering about you. Often without your knowledge, and to an extent few people fully appreciate.

This site continues to make the following resolutions to rebuke this trend regarding your digital information.

  1. Your privacy is yours alone, and you will not be required to supply information about yourself to browse this web site or download software.

  2. Because some other web sites can access the cookie list on your computer, even cookies not set by that web site, this site will never set or read cookies on your computer or device when you are simply browsing this site or downloading software.

  3. This site is not in the business of marketing or hosting ads. So you will never see tracking scripts, such as from "googletagmanager.com", used at this site.

  4. This site has no monetary interest in your data. So this site, nor its owner or manager, will give away or sell any information you voluntarily, or involuntarily, provide. This includes all voluntary data, such as your email address which you provide if using the contact form, or datasets which you may provide to help "debug" issues you may have with products or services this site provides.

  5. Information is gathered by all Internet Service Providers (ISP) that is not the direct result of any specific intent or coding on this or any other web site. Today, this involuntary data and information can provide information about you directly. Most web sites, it seems, may prefer you remain uninformed how much involuntary information you are providing by default because they may have monetary interests in your data. This site believes you should be informed what involuntary information you may be providing by default. Not just this site, but at ever site you visit. Such information may included, but not limited to:

    • Your IP address
    • Your country of origin
    • Time and date you arrived
    • Pages and sites you visited
    • The browser or app you used

  6. Use of a VPN can obfuscate some information to this site, such as IP address or country of origin. But some countries have laws that require ISPs to keep access logs of all original IP addresses for a minimum time period, including the original IP address used to access a VPN. And that information may still be provided to government agencies or court systems as required by law.

  7. The ISP that hosts this site has servers based in the USA. This ISP is GDPR compliant.

You can review their privacy policy at their web site:

  8. This site may use some data gathered by the ISP for security reasons. Such as, but not limited to, recording an IP address that tries to login to an account for which a visitor does not have approved permission to do so. Such data is typically retained for 30 minutes or less.

  9. All software is downloaded by HTTP not FTP so your email address is never accessed or sent out as the "anonymous log in name".

  10. Any personal digital data or information that you voluntarily provide, such as your name, business, email address, etc when using the contact form, or when purchasing a service or user license, that is provided to this site and its owner or manager, may be stored on a secure server or stored offline. Voluntary information may be stored for an indeterminate length of time, but only as necessary for normal business activities that provid you with services you request. Information provided during any purchases may also be separately stored under the purview of the company processing the payment on behalf of this site. Their privacy and data retention policy should also be consulted.

  11. If at any time you wish any personal digital data or information you did provide to this site to be deleted or corrected, please use the contact form using the email account you supplied in prior contacts. You can request a full or partial information deletion/correction of your personal data which is under the purview and direct control of the site's owner or manager. You will receive confirmation of your request at this same email. For personal data and information held under the purview of the ISP or payment processing company please contact the relevant company with your request.

Data and information that is in the public domain (e.g. - all work related information by some government employees), or is deemed required to be held for possible legal reasons, may be still retained but in a manner that prevents direct third party access. Such data is retained either on a non-accessible, fully offline removable media, or as hard copies only. Such data and information is typically retained only as long as required by law, and is not shared unless required by law.

  12. This privacy policy will not apply to any and all data, information and/or content actually or potentially linked to unlawful activities. Any and all such may be reported to appropriate authorities.

If you have any questions about this policy please feel to send an email using the contact form.
