Q
Do you have
printed manuals?
A
No. Some software
have digital manuals or additional help, such as LOAS
and Biotas
(select the "Manual" link). In addition, the online help for
each software can be printed out as a manual as shown in image below.

Q
Do you have
examples how to use your software?
A
LOAS
has step by step instructions and a "movie" file showing how
to use this software. Select the "Manual" menu option on the
LOAS web page to download these files in a self extracting archive. Examples
for other products being developed.

Q
I do not see
the toolbar buttons.
A
The most common cause
is an outdated version of the COMCTL32.DLL on your computer. Install the
latest COMCTL32.DLL, available from Microsoft
http://www.microsoft.com/msdownload/ieplatform/ie/comctrl.asp
You
also get this update if you install Internet Explorer 4.0 or greater (but
we recommend the Opera
browser for all of your web site surfing). If updating the COMCTL32.DLL
does not help, install the very latest version of the driver for your
graphic card.

Q
Why can't I
open a shape file in your software?
A
You probably have:
- Your Windows
setting in the default mode to not show the file extension.
- You are trying
to open a shape file but did not set the shape file default extension
in our software.
- You did not
select the *.shp file extension in the open file window before trying
to open the file.
Instead
of the shape file, it is very likely that you are really trying to open
the supporting dBASE (*.dbf) file that comes with every shape file and
has the same name as your shape file. Without the file extensions showing
it is easy to make this mistake. Our software uses *.dbf as the default
extension and will assume this is the file type you want to open unless
you change this in the file type list box in the open file window. Either
select the "Shape File (*.shp)" option in the "Open File"
window when you open your file, or use the Menu item "Edit>Preferences"
and select the shape file extension to "Shape File (*.shp)".
Then use the "Open Overlay" menu item.

Q
Can I use MS
Access databases with ESS software?
A
The answer in most
cases is "yes". If the software contains the ESS Visual
SQL builder you can open an Access database table with this tool. However,
you must also have the correct MS Access database drivers installed. ESS
does not directly distribute the required Access database drivers. You
can get these required drivers in one of two ways:
- Install an MS
office product of your choice.
- Download and install
the ADO (ActiveX Data Object) from Microsoft http://www.microsoft.com/data/ado/
